What is a TENS machine
The latest TENS unit’s are digitally advanced, small, portable, battery powered devices which send pulsed electrical stimulus to nerves via two or more electrodes (pads) placed on the skin.
TENS machines are typically used to assist with the symptomatic relief and management of long term pain.
Why use a TENS machine?

How does a TENS unit work?
  • Stimulates your bodies release of natural pain killers similar to morphine (endorphins and encephalins) which reduces your sense of pain.

  • Provides a sense of control over pain and gives an alternative focus.
What does a TENS feel like?
  • The user will experience a pleasant tingling sensation on the skin where the pads are placed.
How long will it take for the TENS machine to work?
  • The TENS machine will start to work straight away. You will need to use the TENS for about 30 minutes to reach maximum affect and it will last about 30 minutes after the TENS has been switched off.
How long should a TENS machine be used for?
  • The TENS machine can be used for as long as desired, typically 30 minutes up to 2 hours, several times a day if needed.
What is an EMS machine?
  • The EMS machine stands for Electrical Muscular Stimulation sometimes also called STIM. This machine can treat muscular conditions and improve sports performance. The EMS strengthens weak muscles by electronically stimulating muscles to contract. It can also be used to tone and improve circulation.
What should I know about using TENS?
  • TENS has been used safely since the 1960's. However there are a few precautions. Do not use over broken or desensitised skin. If you are pregnant do not use before 36 weeks unless approved by your doctor. Do not use if you have a pacemaker. Seek advice from doctor if you have epilepsy.
  • The TENS machine should always be used according to the manufacturers instructions
Can I use a TENS machine with other pain relief methods?
  • Yes, you may continue using the TENS machine with other methods such as prescribed medication.
